This piece is a little window into my childhood. Butterflies have always held a special place in my heart, carrying a sense of nostalgia and reminding me of a simpler time.
The swirling details throughout the painting were inspired by Coraline—one of my all-time favorite movies—and my love for Tim Burton’s wonderfully strange and whimsical world. I wanted the piece to carry that same feeling: mysterious, nostalgic, and dreamlike.
But beyond the memories and inspiration, the butterfly represents something deeper to me. A butterfly begins as something entirely different, and through metamorphosis, it becomes something new.
In a way, I see a reflection of Jesus in that transformation. When we give our lives to Him, He begins changing us from the inside out. We are not meant to remain who we once were. Through Him, we are made new.
